Joe,

I'm so glad to hear your voice and know you are doing so well! Since I've known you, you've always been "fast tracker." It's also good to see a thumbs-up after all you have been through. Come on though - Polka Dots, Joe?

Hey Joe, where you going with that tube in your chest? (Sorry, you know that I can never resist that old Hendrix gag.) It's great to hear your voice and I'm glad you were feeling well enough to record a message. We've been thinking about you a lot over the past couple of weeks. Even though I always knew you would do just fine, it's still a relief to know that surgery went well and that you're feeling better each day. Recovery can be pretty sucky for a little while but before you know it, you'll be feeling better than you did before the tune-up.

Take your time getting better, think positive thoughts and enjoy your amazing family. Oh, and start thinking about your next blog concept - you have a knack for it!

Joe,

You are an inspiration; your positive approach to this situation has made me admire you even more. You are a lucky man to have such a partner as Allison is; Max is a luck chap to have you both.

This is one of my favorite poems and I thought it fitting of the way you and Allison 'carry' each other.

Summons

Keep me from going to sleep too soon
Or if I go to sleep too soon
Come wake me up. Come any hour
Of night. Come whistling up the road.
Stomp on the porch. Bang on the door.
Make me get out of bed and come
And let you in and light a light.
Tell me the northern lights are on
And make me look. Or tell me clouds
Are doing something to the moon
They never did before, and show me.
See that I see. Talk to me till
I'm half as wide awake as you
And start to dress wondering why
I ever went to bed at all.
Tell me the walking is superb.
Not only tell me but persuade me.
You know I'm not too hard persuaded.

Joe, we just got back from Hawaii. Jenny is all married and happy as a Lark. While we were in Hawaii I met a man from Cleveland (he seemed to be an inteligent guy). I mentioned your surgery at the Cleveland Clinic to him. He said Cleveland was soooo proud of this clinic. He said it is known all over the world as one of the best in the world for heart aurgery. So maybe that is why you are doing so well. Judy and I were talking about how nice it would be to see you three around Thanksgiving (we're having it here) or maybe even Christmas. Jenny said she will be talking to Al to see if everyones visits can be co-ordinated. Will we get to see your scar? Steve

Hi Joe!
We just talked with Allison about the procedure that needs to be done tomorrow morning just when you thought you were headed home to Connecticut! What a bummer! Better to get it fixed now than have to come back to Cleveland in the future though! Sorry to hear about the delay though......I know you must feel very disappointed right now. If my magic wand had more power, I'd wave it over you immediatly and have you back home with your wife and son tonight!!
We have been home from Hawaii for 2 days and all of us have felt the effects of some jet lag. There's only a 4 hour difference between here and Hawaii but we still felt its curse flowing over us. We had a great time over there although if we could replay our plans, I think we'd all agree that we could have cut off the length of the trip. The weather was warm, low 80s, with lots of light showers that surprised us every now and then. We played golf twice and the hilight was playing a gorgeous Arnie Palmer course that looked like a sand trap with grass growing here and there instead of visa versa. Nevertheless, it was certainly the prettiest course we've ever played in all our lives.
The wedding went very well. Jenny is quite the planner. She was very much in charge and Richard went along with whatever she said. I think he was trying to be sensitive to his bride since weddings are more often what the woman has been dreaming about all her life than what the groom has been thinking about. We felt sorry for Richard because none of his family came for the celebration. His best man, Jim, was a friend from his past but we all felt badly that he didn't have more friends/family there. I sent some pictures to your yahoo website tonite that we took last week so hopefully they'll give you a better idea of what went on.
I was really moved by your verbal message that you taped earlier. Since this techy blog stuff is all new to me, it's fascinating how you've pulled together such an incredible way to keep in touch with all of us.
I'll be in touch again soon. Love from your favorite mother in law

Joe, Allison and Max --

Your audio message was just one of the most inspirational things I have ever heard. And also one of the very coolest.

Very well done Joe. Very well done. Keep up the great attitude.

You continue to amaze us all....
